Seasonal Buying Calendar: When to Buy Which Apparel Stocklots
Timing your stocklot purchases right can mean the difference between fast resale and dead inventory. Here's a season-by-season buying guide.

Timing Is Everything in the Liquidation Market
Stocklot availability follows predictable seasonal patterns tied to retail and export cycles. Buying ahead of demand — not after — is what separates fast-moving inventory from stock that sits in your warehouse for months.
Q1 (Jan–Mar): Winter Clearance Surplus
Retailers offload unsold winter stock — heavy jackets, sweaters, thermal wear. Great time to buy if your target market has a delayed winter season (e.g., Southern Hemisphere) or if you’re stockpiling for next year’s discount season.
Q2 (Apr–Jun): Spring/Summer Transition Lots
Cancelled spring orders and early summer overstock (t-shirts, light dresses, shorts) become available. This is also when many factories clear pre-summer production runs — ideal timing for buyers supplying summer markets in the Southern Hemisphere or year-round warm climates.
Q3 (Jul–Sep): Back-to-School & Mid-Year Overstock
Mixed-category lots from mid-year retail promotions appear, often including children’s wear and casual basics. Good window for buyers targeting back-to-school resale markets.
Q4 (Oct–Dec): Peak Liquidation Season
The largest volume of stocklots hits the market as retailers clear shelves before year-end inventory counts. Outerwear, holiday-themed items, and general mixed lots are abundant — but competition among buyers is also highest.
Planning Your Purchases
- Buy 1–2 seasons ahead if shipping to distant markets (6–8 week transit times)
- Buy in Q4 for the widest selection, but expect higher demand from other buyers
- Buy in Q1/Q2 for better negotiating leverage, as supplier inventory pressure is lower
Our Tip: At EcoStocklots, we update our inventory year-round and can notify you when lots matching your target season become available.
