Not All Stocklots Are Created Equal

One of the most common questions from new B2B buyers is: “Should I buy a mixed lot or a sorted lot?” The answer depends entirely on your labor capacity, target market, and resale channel.

1. Mixed Lots (Unsorted)

Priced by weight, mixed lots contain a random assortment of categories, sizes, and sometimes seasons. They’re the cheapest entry point per kg, but require significant in-house sorting before resale.

Best for: Buyers with warehouse labor available, or those selling in bulk to local markets where sorting isn’t required.

2. Sorted-by-Category Lots

These lots are separated into categories — tops, bottoms, outerwear, dresses — but sizes and styles within each category may still vary. This saves time while keeping prices reasonable.

Best for: Buyers targeting specific resale niches (e.g., outerwear-only stores).

3. Graded Lots (A/B/C Grade)

Grading separates stock by condition: Grade A (retail-ready, no defects), Grade B (minor flaws, still sellable), Grade C (heavily flawed, recycling or rag trade only). Graded lots cost more per piece but drastically reduce return rates.

Best for: Online resellers and discount retail stores where customer-facing quality matters.

4. Style-Specific Lots

Single-style, multi-size lots (e.g., one style of hoodie in S–XL) are ideal for buyers who want consistent inventory for a specific product line or private-label-style resale.

Best for: Buyers running their own small brand or consistent online store listings.

5. Matching Lot Type to Your Resale Channel

  • Flea market / bulk resale → Mixed lots
  • Online marketplace (per-piece) → Graded or sorted lots
  • Discount retail store → Sorted-by-category, Grade A/B
  • Export to secondary markets → Mixed or sorted-by-category, any grade

Our Tip: At EcoStocklots, we clearly label every lot by type and grade in our inventory listings, so you can filter by what matches your business model.
